The Heart Centre has a major commitment to Structural Heart Program Research.
 
The Alfred was the first hospital in Victoria to perform transcatheter valve implantation for severe aortic stenosis and has been a leading contributor to the ANZ Corevalve trial as well as involvement in the Edwards valve Solace study.  Further studies are evaluating cardiac physiology before and after Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation.
 
Other areas of research include the assessment of PFO closure devices for reducing the risk of stroke, left atrial appendage closure to prevent stroke and assessment of new devices for the treatment of normal ejection fraction heart failure, numerous renal denervation studies including new technologies such as high frequency ultrasound.
