Associate Professor André La Gerche MBBS PhD FRACP FESC
 
Andre is a visiting cardiologist (imaging) at The Alfred Department of Cardiovascular Medicine and Head of Sports Cardiology at the Baker IDI.

Research projects in 2015
 
He is conducting a number of studies which are all captured under the umbrella of cardiac physiology during exercise.  Studies include a randomised trial of Sildenafil on cardiac function during exercise in diabetes, exercise MRI to detect subtle cardiac damage during chemotherapy in breast cancer patients and a long-term prospective study of heart function in elite athletes.
 
Publication highlights in 2015: 29 publications including original research in European Heart Journal and a review in Circulation (see publications list under 'research').
 
Awards: NHMRC Career Development Fellowship (2015 - 2018) and NHF Future Leaders Fellowship (2015 - 2018).
 
Other Achievements: First non-European elected to the European Society of Cardiology Sports Cardiology Nucleus.  Faculty for the American College of Cardiology Sports Cardiology Curriculum.  Plenary lectures at ESC, ACSM and Richard Lewar Centre of Excellence Distinguished Visiting Professor - Toronto, Canada.  Co-supervised 2 PhD students to completion in 2015.
