Archer Broughton is currently Deputy Director of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine and Head of the Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratories.  He did his basic cardiology training at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney before moving to the Baker Institute to study the effects of LV hypertrophy on canine myocardial function under Prof Paul Korner.  Postdoc studies included three year relocation to North Carolina gaining expertise in clinical cardiac electrophysiology and micro-electrode studies at Duke University Medical Center.  He has worked as full-time cardiologist at The Alfred since 1987.  His interests include clinical database design, device implantation, coronary intervention and arrhythmia management although he is no longer involved in electrophysiology procedures.
